Rogers and Emma Pope Collection

The American Historical Collection of the Rizal Library is now home to over a thousand valuable photographs, postcards, and ephemera of Rogers Raymond Pope and his wife Emma Pettey Pope, a gift in trust to the American Association of the Philippines made possible by the generosity of Linda Pope Pratt and family.

Rogers was among the American teachers assigned to the Philippines in 1911 to 1913 and again, from 1915 to 1920, joined by his wife Emma. He took hundreds of photographs, collected artifacts, and wrote journal entries in the Philippines and in his globe-spanning journeys from and to the United States. These include early photographs of Teacher’s Camp in Baguio, during both periods of his residence in the Philippines, of barrio schools in Casiguran, Sorsogon, from 1911 and 1913, and of San Jose, Antique and of Capiz, during his second assignment in Panay, from 1915 and 1920.
